I started photographing Girls Rock MKE in 2013 during their first camp when my child was six months old. I cried at the final showcase, imagining my child up there one day. They've attended the camp four times since then, and I’ve volunteered multiple times. My photos capture band portraits, candid moments, performances, and quiet connections. They showcase a space filled with inclusion, creativity, and joy, where young people, particularly girls and gender-expansive youth, are encouraged to express themselves. In 2025, the organization will change its name to better reflect its commitment to trans and non-binary inclusion, and this project will evolve with that change.
