This project documents the beadwork of Samantha Whitefeather, a member of the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe. Raised in the city and distanced from her culture, Samantha uses beadwork as a way to reconnect, taught by other Native artists both in person and online, and now passing that knowledge on to others. Working under the name Language of Beads, she creates each piece slowly, with care and intention. I photographed her process using digital and video, focusing on the rhythm of her hands, the materials she uses, and the quiet act of remembering held in every thread.
